Who We Are

Paw de Janeiro is your trusted brand for walking and grooming

Paw de Janeiro is a professional dog walking and grooming service based in Aurora, serving families across Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and the wider York Region. We walk, hike and groom dogs throughout the area, and for the families we know well, we open our own home too, so their dog can stay with us instead of a stranger.

Every walk and every groom is handled by the same small team, people who know your dog by name and routine. On a walk, we notice how your dog is doing and we tell you. In the grooming room, we work at your dog’s pace and take them one at a time, never on a conveyor belt. And on the day everything falls apart and you need someone now, we’re built to say yes.

We started as Positive Paw K9s, became Pawsitive Paw, and grew into Paw de Janeiro. The name says who we really are: Brazilian heart, Canadian reliability. We’ve stayed small on purpose, and we look after your dog the way we’d want someone to look after our own: warmly, dependably, and without being asked twice.

Because to us, your dog was never just an appointment. They’re family: yours, and while they’re with us, a little bit ours too.

Professional Dog Care with Brazilian Soul

Based in York Region and built on training, insurance and preventive care. In the grooming room, we look after one dog at a time, in a calm environment, because how a dog feels during care shapes whether they trust it.
Our purpose

The Care Behind Every Calm Experience

We’re building a place where dogs and the people who love them belong.

Our vision starts with trust. We want to be the name families across York Region reach for first. The people you hand your dog to without a second thought, knowing they’ll be looked after exactly the way you’d do it yourself. Trust is the whole business. Everything else is built on it.

And we’re building a real home for that trust. We started with walks and grew into grooming, and we’re not done. Step by step, we’re creating a place where more of what your dog needs lives under one roof, and where every visit is one they’re actually happy to make. Somewhere warm and familiar, for the dogs and for you.

We’re inspired by the way pet care is done back home in Brazil, where looking after your dog is personal, joyful and woven into everyday life. That’s the feeling we’re building here. One dog and one happy family at a time.

We take real care of your dog when you can’t, and we do it properly.

We walk, hike and groom the dogs of York Region with attention and patience, and we’re honest with you about how the day went. We show up when we say we will. We never rush a dog through their day to get to the next one. Life is busy and unpredictable. Our job is to be the dependable, kind people you can trust with your dog, so you can stop worrying

Building your dog’s best life with a little samba in every step.

OUR VALUES

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Values only matter when they show up in the work. These guide how we care for every dog and every family who trusts us, in every season. That is what separates structured care from informal pet care. Not the love. The preparation behind it.
Kindness

We're force-free with every dog, no prong or shock collars, no shortcuts, and just as warm with the people around them.

Well-being of every dog comes first

Every walk, hike and groom moves at your dog's pace, with the breaks they need and no dog rushed through.

Inclusive by nature

Every dog and every family is met with the same warmth and respect, whatever their breed, background or belief.

Preventive care

A good groom protects skin and coat, and a good walk builds calm, long before either changes how a dog looks.

Honesty

We only offer what we can do properly, and we always tell you the truth about how your dog is really doing.

Dependability

We're insured, we show up, and we do what we say, even on the day everything else falls apart.

Care is not cosmetic.

A good groom protects the coat and the skin long before it changes how a dog looks. A good walk builds structure and calm, not just spent energy. We care for one dog at a time, in a calm environment, because how a dog feels during care shapes whether they trust it.

OUR STANDARDS

Professional care as a system

We are insured through PROfur and trained to handle every dog with the attention their safety requires. Our clients always know who is caring for their dog and what happened during every service. That is what separates structured care from informal pet care. Not the love. The preparation behind it.

OUR CO-FOUNDER

I have a French name, Italian heritage, a Brazilian passport, and a Canadian heart.

Our Founder

Aline

I have a French name, Italian heritage, a Brazilian passport, and a Canadian heart. Although I’ve never fit neatly into one box, I’ve come to see that as a gift rather than a complication.

I believe in the power of kindness and knowledge, and that change comes in small increments, built patiently, every single day. The biggest difference I can make is the one closest to home, in my own community, with my own hands.

I came to dogs the long way around. I trained as a lawyer, because for as long as I can remember I’ve carried a fierce sense of justice, a need for things to be fair and for people to be treated right. Law wasn’t where I found it, and letting law go was hard, but the sense of justice never left me; it only went looking for a truer home. I found it, of all places, here.

There’s a quiet kind of justice in showing up when you said you would, and in telling the truth about how someone’s dog is really doing. It means giving every animal and every person the care and respect they deserve. I never expected a small dog-walking business to become the thing that mattered most to me. But caring for the dogs of my community, and the people who love them, turned out to be exactly the kind of good I’d always wanted to do. Small. Daily. That’s what makes it real.

And this is what Paw de Janeiro is to me: not just a business, but a way to build a better world, one dog and one family at a time.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me on a trail with our dog, Ripley. We chose her breed for the hikes. Ripley takes her job of making every visiting dog feel at home very seriously. The rest of the time, I’m probably at the piano or singing karaoke at home, which I do almost every day. I wanted to be a singer when I was a kid, and I turned out to be a terrible one, but I’ve never once let that stop me.

Our Co-Founder

John

I’m John, co-owner of Paw de Janeiro alongside Aline, my partner in both the business and in life. You’ll usually find me out on the trails and neighbourhood walks with your dogs, and with our own dog, Ripley, which is exactly where I like to be.

What I love most about this work is the relationships. There’s honestly no better feeling than showing up and watching one of our furry friends completely lose it with excitement the second they see you. That never gets old.

My favourite part of any walk or hike, though? The shade breaks. I’ll be honest: in the summer, I need them just as much as the dogs do. We find a cool spot, catch our breath together, and then we’re back at it.

And one thing you should probably know about me: I know more about the Toronto Blue Jays, and Blue Jays history, than the tour guides at the Rogers Centre. I stand by that completely. Ask me anything.

Autumn

Groomer

I started out as a dog walker back before we became Paw de Janeiro, while training full time to become a groomer. When Aline took over the business, we found we shared the same principles, standards and love for dogs, so becoming the groomer, and soon a partner, just made sense. Today I'm our full-time groomer and a proud co-owner.

What I love most is earning the trust of the nervous or shy dogs and watching them come out of their shell and decide I'm safe. Those bonds have truly made my life better.

On a walk or a hike, I'm all about creating fun for them, whether that's a new trail to explore or just time outside together. Fun fact: my whole journey started with the movie In Her Shoes, where a character leaves her corporate job to walk dogs, and I thought, "I wonder if I could do that?" Four years later, here I am.

I'm one of our walkers and a true, all-in animal lover. What I love most about dogs is their endless, unconditional love; they're natural serotonin in furry, four-legged form, and they'll turn your worst day right around.

Out on a walk, I love following their curiosity wherever it leads, and catching the occasional photo op along the way.

Fun fact: I'm the person who carries spiders back outside, and I dream of a little hobby farm one day, cats to cows, dogs to donkeys, and whoever else decides to join us.

I love getting to know each dog's unique personality and building a bond with them. It's rewarding to see them happy, confident and excited for every walk, knowing I'm making their day a little better.

My favourite thing is exploring new trails, letting dogs safely sniff and take in the world, and working in a bit of play along the way, whether it's fetch outside or a squeaky toy indoors.

Fun fact: I'm happiest outdoors, hiking, paddle boarding, or finding a scenic spot and a good coffee shop to enjoy with a four-legged companion.

What I love most is giving dogs the mental stimulation people often forget about. Walks and hikes are a chance for them to socialize, explore and use their senses, which makes for happy, healthy dogs.

Out with me, they choose their own adventure: fast to take in the sights, slow to watch the world go by, or stopping every few seconds to sniff and analyze everything. On hikes, I love watching their personalities come out around other dogs, and I let them be them while keeping everyone happy and safe.

Fun fact: I have a degree in psychology, and while it's human psychology, so much of it carries over to dogs. I'd love to study animal psychology next.

You'll find me out on the walks, and what I love most about dogs is their personalities. Every one is different, and every one is a pleasure to get to know.

My favourite thing is letting the dog set the pace: slow and sniffy when they want to explore, faster when they've got energy to burn.

Fun fact: I've been a Drum Circle Facilitator for the past 15 years, and whether it's animals or people, it all comes down to making a connection.
