When you start a business, everything pushes you to grow fast, fill the calendar, overlap the bookings, and say yes to everything. The numbers start climbing and they feel like proof. It is a pull I understand. In the early days, a full schedule can become the measure of success. I decided against it on purpose.

Reputation is built one dog at a time

Paw de Janeiro is a service people can trust with a member of their family, and that trust is not won in a launch or a busy month. It is won when the second walk goes as well as the first, and the fiftieth as well as the second. Volume doesn’t build that. Consistency does.

So I made an early decision: grow slowly, take fewer dogs at a time when needed, and give real attention to each one. A reputation built on how the work is done will always outlast one built on how much of it you take.

Systems before scale

Slow does not mean we stay small. It means structure comes before growth. Before I take on a new client, I want to know we can hold the same standard for their dog that we already hold for every dog with us. Training our walkers is what makes them reliable. Being insured is what makes the service accountable. These are the foundations you build on before you grow.

When a business scales past its systems, it breaks in quiet ways. A missed detail, a rushed walk, and soon that is part of the service. The client rarely sees the first crack, but they feel it later, when the layer of care begins to thin. I would rather grow slowly and never let that happen.

Trust is a long game. We are not building for a quarter. We are building for families who stay with us for years, whose dogs we know by temperament and not just by name, and whose routines we protect like our own. Those relationships cannot be rushed. Slow on purpose is not a limitation. It is how you build something that lasts.
